April 2009 Newsletter

"Those who oppress the poor insult their Maker, but those who help the poor honor him." Proverbs 14:31

MABUHAY Faithful Partners and Friends!

The month of April has been filled with so much life. We have been getting more and more involved with Real Life Foundation.

The Real LIFE Foundation is an educational advocacy organization dedicated to serving the poor and improving their lives through educational assistance, leadership development, and community service.

It exists to see thousands of marginalized Filipino youth educated, gainfully employed, and uplifting their communities.

Every week there is a feeding program that we volunteer at. We get to interact with about 150 to 200 kids every Saturday, playing games, praying together, and eating together. These kids range from 3 to 9 years old. Many of these children never get the opportunity to eat a good, healthy, and filling meal.

It’s been such a joy serving there. God is really filling our hearts with more and more compassion for the poor and oppressed people.

This month because of your help we were able to help put 1 child’s tuition. We will continue to serve there for as long that God tells us to do so.

Real Life has also opened up many doors for many friends to get involved and we are praying to be able to bring to church and share the Gospel one day.

Also, after the weekly feeding program, there is a jail nearby, that we give the left over food to the inmates there.

It is so disturbing to see about 30 men cramped in a small jail cell. God has given us favor with the police officers and the guards, as well as the inmates. They are so happy to see us every Saturday.

It seems like there is not enough hours in a day sometimes. We are staying busy with weekly small-group bible studies, Friday Night Youth Service where I preached a couple of Fridays ago.

I preached about the Father Heart of God, and spoke on the story of the Prodigal Son. Many kids gave there lives to the Lord and many more made recommitment to follow the Lord with their whole heart and not half-heartedly.

Again, thank you so much for all your love and support. Because of you we are able to touch many lives and bring hope as well. May God continue to keep you safe and provide for your every need.

Allow me to share what I shared in our offering last week. Often thinking of what we don't have, we fail to see or even take seriously what we have. Jesus fed five thousand men plus women and children, with two fish and 5 loaves of bread. Matthew 14:17-21.

Remember, it is from what we have, not from what we don't have, that we find what we need and then some. It just depends on who's hands it's in. In our hands we can only do so much, in Jesus's hands He can create a miracle. Thank you so much for all your love and support, we are believing that God will not only continue to provide for you, but pour out His blessing on you as well.

We love you and are praying for you,

Robert and Samantha Johnson

The Principle of Walking and Talking

Jesus both lived what He believed and talked openly about what He believed. Here's what He said about keeping our walk (behavior) and talk congruent.

Be salt-seasoning.
"Let me tell you why you are here. You're here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth. If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste godliness? You've lost your usefulness and will end up in the garbage." (Matthew 5:13)

Go public with your faith.
"You're here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We're going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don't think I'm going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I'm putting you on a light stand. Now that I've put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand -- shine!" (Matthew 5:14-16)

Let people "hang out" with you.
"Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you'll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven." (Matthew 5:16)

Many thanks to: Carol Kent.
